Review & Decide Alarms

How to look

1. Look at all tiles, not only the first one.
2. Look for a person or a vehicle, and for what it does.
3. Use the timeline to understand the order: where did it start, where did it go.
4. If one tile is unclear, open it (see The Camera View below).
5. Decide.

Good to Know

• New tiles can appear while you look. More alarms of the same site arrived. They belong to the same event. Include them in your decision.
• You cannot change the layout. GC Surge arranges the tiles.
• You only see cameras with a real alarm, not all cameras of the site.

The Camera View

Step 1: Click the expand icon on a tile.

Step 2: The camera opens large in a window called Zen Mode. The pictures before, at and after the alarm play. The window also shows the site, the device, the date and time, and what was detected, for example "person (81.4)".

Step 3: If the camera has several alarms, they play one after another. The bar under the picture has one part per alarm: click a part to jump to that alarm. The counter, for example ALARM 1 OF 2, shows which alarm you see. PAUSE stops the playback.

Step 4: Go back to the wall to see the other cameras.

In the camera view you can also download the clip (DOWNLOAD CLIP) and copy a link to the alarm sequence (Copy Salvo URL, the clipboard icon), for example to share it with your supervisor. Close the window with ×.

The decision keys G and R always decide the whole site, not only the camera you opened.

The Two Decisions

Watch:

Rules

• One decision covers all cameras and all alarms on your wall.
• If one camera shows a real intrusion and the others show nothing, the decision is Real alarm.
• If you are not sure, follow the instruction of your monitoring centre. If you have no instruction, treat it as a real alarm and tell your supervisor.
• Your decision is recorded with your name, the time and how long you needed.
• Take your hands off G and R when you are not deciding. A key press decides the site immediately. If you press G or R twice very quickly, GC Surge ignores the second press (within about a second), so the next site is not decided by mistake.

After a Real Alarm: The Hold

Watch:

After Real alarm the screen shows Holding with a countdown, for example "Next assignment in 60 seconds", and the text "Complete handling in the alarm reception system. The next site opens when the hold ends."

1. Go to your alarm system.
2. Handle the alarm there as your procedures say (call, dispatch, report).
3. Come back to GC Surge. When the countdown ends, the next site opens by itself.

Good to Know

• The length of the hold is set by your supervisor (Hold after escalation, up to 120 seconds).
• If you need more time than the hold gives you, pause before the hold ends (see Pause and Inactivity in Start, Pause & End Your Shift). Otherwise the next site opens and the inactivity time starts.
• There is no hold after Not an alarm.
